Every Military Search answers one question, “was this person covered on the date that matters?”, and keeps the evidence that backs the answer.

A search returns one result per name variation searched, plus an overall answer:

  • Covered at the top of the search is true if any variation came back covered. Review every covered result, since one covered alias is enough to trigger SCRA or MLA protections.
  • Each result shows the name searched, so you can see which variation matched.

An SCRA result reports status as of the date of interest you searched with (today, if none was given). DMDC checks three things, and reports each with its own covered flag, start and end dates, and service component:

Check Answers
Active duty Was the person on active duty on the date of interest?
Early indication Had the person, or their unit, been notified of a future call-up to active duty?
Recent service Did the person leave active duty within the lookback window (367 days) before the date of interest?

A result also carries DMDC’s match reason, for example NO_MATCH when DMDC found no record for the details given.

An MLA result reports whether the person is a covered borrower, and which identifier the check used (SSN or ITIN).

DMDC issues a certificate for each result. Request certificates with the search (or in your batch order settings) to keep proof of every check. In batch orders, certificates are split per person, so each one is filed against the right record.

If your organization orders Military Search from QBO:

  • Results appear as SCRA Results on each borrower or contact, with the DMDC dates, service component, match code, and certificate ID.
  • Certificates are saved as documents on the contact (by default, with the DMDC Certificate document template).
  • SSNs show masked. Users with the Unmask SSN permission can reveal the full number, and every reveal is written to the security log.

Where your administrator has set it up:

  1. Open the foreclosure and go to Processes.
  2. Launch a QMS Near Real-Time Order.
  3. The workflow sends the borrowers to Military Search, waits for the order to complete, and imports the results under Foreclosure > Loan > Borrowers. Any custom images are added as documents on the contacts.
