Walkthroughs
Walkthroughs show how QBO’s building blocks fit together to solve a real problem, end to end. Each one lists who it’s for, what you need before you start, the building blocks it uses, and the steps to build it. For what each building block does on its own, see the platform pages.
Most walkthroughs are written for power users who configure QBO; a few include steps for developers. Industry walkthroughs use that industry’s vocabulary, but the techniques apply to any process.
Platform techniques
Section titled “Platform techniques”- Reuse one API call across workflows, documents, and pages: Define an operation once, test it, then use it to save data from another system, feed documents and messages, and show live data on a page.
- Build a customer outreach workflow with follow-up calls: A workflow that queues an outbound call, waits, tries twice more, and marks the case unreachable if no call resolves it.
- Create worklists from any source: Turn a one-off spreadsheet, a recurring file, or a data warehouse query into tasks on a worklist, then route them to a team.
- Launch workflows from a data warehouse query: Query an external database on a schedule, keep one case per record with a snapshot of its data, and start a workflow for each new record.
- Classify a document and extract its data with AI: Have AI decide what kind of document arrived, pull typed values from it with a confidence for each, and send uncertain results to a person.
- Draft replies to inbound email with AI: Have AI draft a reply to each inbound email from the data on the record it’s about, and keep a person in the loop before anything is sent.
- Review a loan’s documents for a prepayment penalty: Send a loan’s most relevant documents to AI with your review checklist, and save its findings as a memo on the loan, across a whole portfolio.
Mortgage & lending
Section titled “Mortgage & lending”- Score loans for a Freddie Mac Flex Modification with an Excel model: Turn a loan modification spreadsheet into a QBO score template, calculate it for a batch of loans, and audit each result against the exact workbook that produced it.
- Fulfill valuation orders with a network of validated brokers: Import valuation orders, solicit validated brokers who cover each property, give the order to the first broker who accepts, collect their results in a task, and generate the valuation report.
- Manage evictions with state timelines and attorney access: Set up eviction cases on properties, choose a state-specific workflow automatically, let eviction attorneys work their files in QBO or through the API, and generate notices and track messages on each case.
- Run a loan sale or transfer as a deal, stage by stage: Group loans into a deal, track each loan’s eligibility, share the deal with the seller and buyer, and convert it from due diligence to bidding to execution while keeping a snapshot of every stage.
- Onboard and validate a broker network from a spreadsheet: Import brokers and their coverage areas from a spreadsheet, give each one a login and a validation task, and label them Validated when the task is approved.
- Collect foreclosure sale instructions from attorneys and trustees: Capture sale orders, postponements, cancellations, bid instructions, and clearances by screen, spreadsheet, or API call, organize them under an auction record, and pass each one on to Auction.com or another system.
Insurance
Section titled “Insurance”- Organize a policy’s claims, renewals, and onboarding as processes: Set up process templates so each claim, annual review, and onboarding on an insurance policy gets its own folder, workflow, and close rules, with a rules matrix choosing the right workflow.
- Generate a claim document from a Word template: Build a Word template with merge fields, merge in claim, policy, and task data, and generate the document by hand, from a workflow, or through the API.
- Automate force-placed insurance notices and discrepancy review: Import policies, open a tracking process on each, send state-appropriate notices on schedule, flag data that doesn’t match the client’s, and notify the client when tracking completes.
