What's inside

Ten areas, 51 checks.

Written for compliance, operations, and risk leaders in lending, servicing, collections, and credit unions.

  1. 01

    Processes and ownership

Examiners start with what you say you do, then test whether you do it.

  2. 02

    Evidence and audit trail

If it isn’t recorded with the account or case, it is hard to prove it happened.

  3. 03

    Deadlines and timeliness

Many findings are about doing the right thing late.

  4. 04

    Military status (SCRA and MLA)

SCRA and MLA violations are costly, visible, and usually preventable.

  5. 05

    Bankruptcy

Activity after a filing can violate the automatic stay.

  6. 06

    Vendors and third parties

You remain accountable for work your attorneys, agencies, and vendors do for you.

  7. 07

    Exceptions and complaints

How you handle what goes wrong is often what an examiner reads most closely.

  8. 08

    Quality control and testing

Testing your own work is the best preparation for someone else testing it.

  9. 09

    Access and data security

Regulated operations hold sensitive personal data.

  10. 10

    Reporting and examiner readiness

Being ready means producing answers quickly and consistently.

Military status (SCRA and MLA)

SCRA and MLA violations are costly, visible, and usually preventable.

  • Military status is checked before every action the SCRA restricts: rate changes, collection, default judgment, repossession, foreclosure, and eviction.
  • Checks can be run as of the date that matters (origination, filing, or sale date), not only today.
  • Name variations and aliases are searched, so a keyed-in name doesn’t cause a missed match.
  • The DoD status certificate for each check is kept with the account or case.

… and 47 more checks in the full checklist.
